This course provides the understanding and tools necessary to perform a DIY energy assessment of your home. We’ll begin by creating an energy profile of your home using existing utility bills. From this information we will calculate seasonal and baseload energy consumption profiles, energy intensity and home heating indexes. Compared with national statistics these indexes will tell you how efficient your home is. We will determine how much energy you are using for water heating, air conditioner, appliances, lighting, cooking and laundry. This information will serve as the foundation for creating an energy plan for your home. We’ll discuss steps you can take in your home to conduct self-diagnostics and improve energy performance. We will also discuss professional home energy audits, what they can provide and when they are necessary.
