On November 6-8, 2009, keynotes, presenters and participants will be talking about how to become better at “Fading Your Carbon Footprint”, why we as educators need to think about the issue that confronts us daily and why that’s an exciting challenge for especially environmental educators!

We will have, as keynotes: Dr. Kevin Gurney, Interim Director of the Purdue Climate Change Center and Co-winner of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his work on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change www.purdue.edu/eas/people/faculty/gurney.html , Luke Gascho, Executive Director of Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College who will be talking about Rieth Village (Winner of the 2008 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence). The Rieth Village is an undergraduate level campus for environmental studies for Goshen College which also received LEED Platinum certification which signifies striving for the utmost sustainable design. www.goshen.edu/merrylea/rieth/index.php and Lee Botts, who is a prominent American environmentalist known primarily for her work related to conservation and restoration of the Great Lakes and the Indiana Dunes. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Botts. Also attending is Singer/Songwriter Foster Brown who will be sharing his amazing talents which includes the hits “Scit Scat Diddily Doo”, the “Watershed Song” and “Walkin’ Wadin’ & Wanderin’”. Each day you will be able to choose from Inspirational, Informational or Instructional breakout sessions. This year’s Field Trips include: a Rieth Village tour at Merry Lea Bonneyville Mill which is part of Elkhart County Parks to visit a unique way of generating energy at their old grist mill by utilizing a stream’s current to run a hydrogenerator Rich Meyer farm run as sustainably as possible in Benton, Indiana, or  Canoeing the Elkhart River to learn about the Elkhart River Watershed Management Plan.
