On December 9th, as the holiday season approaches and the UN Climate Change Conference takes place in Copenhagen, the Fort Wayne and IPFW community will be gathering together for a pre-DVD release screening of the No Impact Man documentary and a discussion about not-shopping. The Fort Wayne screening is one of dozens taking place across the nation this week. The No Impact Man Holiday Screening Spectacular will take place at IPFW, Room 159 of the CM building at 7 pm.

After the screening, there will be a discussion about how we can reduce our consumption, spend less, put the fun back into the holiday season and get more of what matters out of it. Event-goers will also receive an e-toolkit full of tips for lowering their environmental impact during the holidays. No Impact Man, an Oscilloscope film, tells the story of Colin Beavan’s decision to completely eliminate his personal impact on the environment for a full year. It means eating vegetarian, buying only local food, and turning off the refrigerator. It also means no elevators, no television, no cars, busses, or airplanes, no toxic cleaning products, no electricity, no material consumption, and no garbage. No problem – at least for Colin – but he and his family live in Manhattan. So when his espresso-guzzling, retail-worshipping wife Michelle and their two-year-old daughter are dragged into the fray, the No Impact Project has an unforeseen impact of its own.

The national screenings are facilitated by the No Impact Project, an organization founded by Colin Beavan following his no impact year, and the Center For a New American Dream, an organization that helps Americans consume more responsibly. This event is open to the public.
