White Violet Center for Eco-Justice (WVC) is proud to announce the 12th annual Earth Day Celebration 11 a.m.-3 p.m. EDT on April 17 at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind.
This family-friendly event is sponsored by the Sisters of Providence of Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods near Terre Haute, Ind. This year’s theme will focus on “going local.”
WVC’s information booth will feature educational materials on the importance of supporting our local farmers, artisans, craftspersons and businesses, and the economic and environmental impact of these choices.
In addition, live folk music from local singer/songwriter, Christina Blust (www.christinablust.com), and Terre Haute band, Yearbook Committee (www.myspace.com/yearbookcommittee73) will keep your toes tapping with the musicians unique blend of guitars, banjo, percussion, kazoo and accordion.
We will again feature a vendor tent with local conservation and environmental non-profits and small businesses selling their eco-friendly or handmade wares made by a variety of local artisans. WVC’s alpaca herd will be on display for meet-and-greets. Our spinners and weavers will be available for demonstrations.
Participants are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle to fill at our water station. We will also have light lunch items for sale. Other fun items on the docket include a kids’ area, a bake sale by the Sisters of Providence, a horse drawn trolley, and tours of our organic farm, straw bale house and more!
The Sisters of Providence’s Heritage Museum located in Providence Center will have a “Daughters of the Forest” display, showing the sisters’ commitment to caring for Earth throughout their history at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Schedule:
11 a.m. – Start of the event
11 a.m. – Christina Blust and The Yearbook Committee performance on main stage
11:15 a.m. – Trolley rides begin and run every half hour — load on Orchard Lane. Tickets available for purchase at info booth.
11:30 a.m. – The Hive in the Classroom: a bee program for youth with Lacy Dooley, 2010 Indiana Honey Princess, at the Kids’ Activity Area.
Noon – Sisters of Providence tour bus departs for straw bale house and hermitage tour. Load bus in front of the recycling barn.
Noon – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College horse presentation. Meet at the SMWC horse barn or catch a wagon ride in front of the red hay barn (wagon is limited to the first 20 people).
1 p.m. – Alpaca demonstration and shearing near the lodge (See photos of shearing.)
1:30 p.m. – Christina Blust and The Yearbook Committee performance on main stage
1:45 p.m. – Organic Garden Q&A at White Violet Center plant sale location
2:15 p.m. – Sisters of Providence Tour Bus departs for straw bale and hermitage tour. Load bus in front of the recycling barn
3 p.m. – Event closing
