The Natural Resources Club at Ball State University is sponsoring an Earth Day celebration April 22 with music and environmental information.
Activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the University Green, located between the Architecture Building and the Frog Baby Fountain. They are free and open to the public.
Organizations sponsoring information booths include the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Nature Conservancy, American Electric Power and the Sierra Club. An acoustic guitarist and a deejay from the Geology Club will perform.
Earth Day is the annual celebration of the environment and a time to assess the work still needed to protect the natural gifts of the planet. Earth Day has no central organizing force although several non-governmental organizations work to keep track of the thousands of local events in schools and parks that mark the day.
The celebration is co-sponsored by Ball State’s Green Committee, a university-level committee formed in 1991 to examine environmental issues on campus. The event returns to campus after an absence of several years, said Hugh Brown, a natural resources professor.
“Several exhibitors will provide fairly technical information, but we will also have entertainment with music,” he said. “In the future, we would like it to be more of a festival that would involve the entire campus.”
For more information, contact the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management at (765) 285-5780.

The Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County would like to take a moment of your time to invite both new and returning organizations and companies to join us April 17, 2010 10a -3p at Sunset Hill Farm County Park just north of Valparaiso, IN.
Our aim is to include and encourage ALL of Northwest Indiana’s organizations and citizens to participate in Earth Day and really make this a regional event! In 2009, over 4,500 people from communities all across the region attended this event.
NWI Earth Day is a FREE event that will include a variety of exhibitors, children’s activities, vendors, seminars, and family-focused demonstrations, all with one purpose in mind – to help Northwest Indiana residents live a ‘greener’ life. Other Earth Day activities include a family tent full of hands-on activities, alternative fuel vehicle displays, food, a silent auction and live music.
This Earth Day celebration is a great forum to let the public know about your organization and how it makes Northwest Indiana a nicer place to live. So come help us enhance public awareness and encourage action and conservation for the health of ourselves and our planet, now and for the future. We hope that you are interested in participating in this year’s event!
