The Indiana Heating and Air Conditioning Incentive Program has run out of money. The federally funded initiative, which provided rebates for qualified Energy Star appliances, wrapped up two weeks earlier than expected. The Indiana Office of Energy Development says it funded more than 15,000 rebates, averaging $400 each.

ARGOS — The Towns of Argos and Bremen in Marshall County have been awarded grants that will allow for the retrofitting of the existing street lighting systems with energy efficient induction lighting.
The grants are part of the Indiana Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program, which is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus package that came to Indiana from the U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE). The EECBG program is administered by the Indiana Office of Energy Development (OED).

A group of six Northwest Indiana municipalities and counties received federal grants to fund energy efficiency initiatives, the Northwest Indiana Forum said Wednesday.
Dyer will receive $22,845 to retrofit traffic lights and street lights with light-emitting diodes. Lowell and Dyer will receive $44,445 and $99,984 respectively to retrofit municipal building lighting. The town of Schererville in slated to get $245,000 for wastewater treatment plant pump improvements.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is awarding the University of Notre Dame a $2.5 million grant research project that could fundamentally change the way the country uses and produces energy. The school and the Mid-Atlantic Technology, Innovation and Research Center will use the funding to study solid compounds. The DOE is providing a total of $106 million for 37 projects.

KERAMIDA Inc., headquartered in Indianapolis, wrote the grant application and led the 25-member collaborative planning team.

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard will unveil more details today for a $10 million federal grant that will be targeted for a major weatherization and energy efficiency project. The initiative involves a 470 square block area that includes the near east side of Indianapolis. Homes, businesses, schools and churches will be eligible for grants and loans in a project that includes a connection to the city hosting the 2012 Super Bowl. Some of the funding will go toward a similar initiative in the city of Lafayette.

Purdue University is part of a federally funded research initiative to create algae for biodiesel production. The project is based at Iowa State University and funded through a grant of more than $4 million from the U.S. Department of Energy.
