Topics: Environment and Sustainability: a discussion on the significance and differences of the different certifications such as: FSC, SFI, PEFC, ECF, PCW, ISO, ESD, CSR, Green-e and wind power will include information on how they apply and are being implemented into current sustainability and environmental efforts in graphic arts manufacturing.
The presentation also includes insights into the importance of chain-of-custody, the new “triple” bottom line, and the reality of the post-consumer waste pyramid as they relate to paper manufacturing and the printing industry.
The third part of this discussion focuses on what content creators, designers, printers, and end users can do to drive change and be more “green” as well as examples of sustainability in activities that Sappi is involved in doing to drive our triple bottom line.

Registration is now open for the 2010 National Environmental Health and Safety (NEHS) Conference, held March 15-17 in Indianapolis! Themed “Printing for a Sustainable Future,” NEHS is the only conference that intersects the needs of safety, environmental and human resources for the graphic communications industry.

Indy’s own InDesign User Group, in partnership with Quality Printing and with support from AIGA Indianapolis, is hosting a day-long conference Tuesday, September 29th. Keynote speaker in the morning is Derek Smith, leading advocate for green energy, carbon emissions, and sustainability issues in design. As a leading consultant of paper and print procurement issues, Derek works closely with both the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and the Forest Stewardship Council.
In the afternoon, four learning tracks will be available to attendees: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat. Three 45-minute sessions will be offered in each track. Attendees can choose which sessions they’d like to attend and move between tracks throughout the afternoon. Noha Edell, Adobe Systems, will be a featured learning track presenter. Following up on last spring’s hit seminar on books and long documents, Noha will be presenting everything you need to know to make your life easier and your long-document projects better. From concept to printed and non-printed finished work, this session has it all.
